Nöm #117- Purple Strawberries (26Apr-12)

Just something simple today ^^
Rice colored with purple carrots. There aint any pink/red carrots so we have purple strawberries =)

Strawberry rice has floss in it, with homemade seaweed chix, cheese omelette, broccoli and grapes.

This is for myself =)

I am thankful my kids ain't fussy when it comes to food and will almost always come back with an empty box. Nowadays, I try and pack the same stuff as what the kids are eating, to have a feel of how their bento *with the cheese and whatever decorations added on* taste like ^^

Nöm #116- Sleep, Eat, Dive (25Apr-12)

I had to make a diver related bento. Simply because I love diving :)
Today, kids have 2 small hotdog rolls each. I used Tay's cheese sausage, added in more cheese, generous servings of lettuce and plonked them on butter rolls instead of hotdog buns. I made 1 for myself too... yummy... ^^

Someone asked how I made the masks, I didn't take photos for tutorial when I made the bento. Thus I came back after work and did a quick tutorial =) Note that I used cheese for the tutorial instead of kamaboko which was used for the bento that kids ate.
These are the 2 tools that I used. Both can be found in Daiso.

Stamp out a piece of cheese/kamaboko. Cut as per dotted lines for the shape of the mask.

Use the "triangular" end to stamp out the "nose" part of the mask.

Use the round stamper, cut out 2 round circles. Then cut along the dotted lines.

Here u go =)

Spray with color mist.

Nöm #114- Little Red Riding Hood & Big Bad Wolf (23Apr-12)

Promised the girl LRRH last week but only managed to get it done today.
Today's rice is a little different, instead of plain rice as the base, I have another layer of floss sandwiched between 2 layers of rice. Think the kids will enjoy it =)

... Ps: Notice the little tail hiding behind the tree? :P

Good Monday, everyone ^^

This is for me =)

Nöm #113- Ernie, Cookie Monster & Elmo (20Apr-12)

Mini baos today.

Elmo- Yam, that's the color of the bao.
...
Cookie- TauSa. Sprayed with wilton mist. Kids have habit of peeling off the "skin" before consumption, so I guess its ok for a little coloring =)

Ernie- TauSa too. Wanted to use smoked cheese but didnt turn out well. Had to use cupcake sprinkles. And.. silly me used yellow instead of orange for 1st 2 baos.. wrong color!

I made an extra for myself & I packed it in a bag with frozen milo, and had intended to eat it around 9ish to have an "exact" feel of how the bento will taste like when kids have it for recess.

But, i was hungry :P Ate it just before I post this.
Surprisingly, Ernie with the sprinkles tasted nice (was a little worried how it will taste on bao).

The sprinkles I used ain't too sweet, it was crunchy and complimented the bao quite well :P

Nöm #112- Buzzing Bees savoury crepes (19Apr-12)

Boy has a pizza party in school today, so I reckon I will take a morning break and get the girl to buy food from canteen instead.

I only have to go to work in the afternoon today so I made these for their lunch.

Idea is shamelessly copied from another mommy =)
I saw her bee bento when I was surfing the web.

Nöm #111- Little Seals swimming in soba (18Apr-12)

Soba today. Kids' favorite ^^ Dipping sauce is packed separately.

These are the 2 nori punchers I used for today's bento. I don't use all that is being punched out, only selective =)

I am using fishballs (please do cook them first ^^) for the seals.
Slice off one end to make the flippers. Add on little strips of nori.

Slice another thin slice off the same fishball. Stamp out 2 little circles for the nostrils.

Add on little dots (these are the eyes stamped out using the cat puncher)

I decorated all the parts before assembling them all together.

And I had time to make a bento for myself today ^^

Nöm #109- Wicked, Elphaba (16Apr-12)

Caught this musical with the kids yesterday. One requested for Glinda, the other wanted Fiyero.

Its lazy Monday, and I doubt I can churn out the characters they wanted, so here is an easier alternative ^^

ps: the "WICKED" word on the sandwich is edited in, as my alphabet cutters are a little too big :(

Nöm #107- Batboy & Batgirl (12Apr-12)

Specially for the boy. Wanted to do just the batman logo, but the sister didn't wanted batman :P
Therefore, I make another batboy/ batgirl at the side for some cuteness ^^

Nöm #105- Whack-A-Mole (10Apr-12)

PBJ sandwich ^^

Haha, i thought my bento is really funny looking today. I had the urge to "pinch" out the moles after I am done :P

I thought my moles look like seal, but I dont wanna call this whack-a-seal.
So, Whack-A-Mole it shall be :P

Bought these mini marshmallows from Cold Storage.

Use a round cutter to stamp out a few holes. Spread PBJ on another slice of bread & top it with this "holey" bread.

Pre punched nori.

Stick on the facial details, stuffed the marshmallows into yr sandwich and there you go ^^

My kids are excited about this bento today :P

Hee.. Monday again. Woke up late again ^^
Idea copied from web.

Nöm #103- Angry Pigs, Happy Easter (05Apr-12)

In a week, there will be at least 1 day when I will either:
(1) woke up late
(2) feeling lazy
(3) mind void of ideas/creativity

Today, I am all 3 :P

Made something which I have done before (but I didn't blog the 1st Angry Pig bento).
I have done bread balls before, so today's lunchbox was really something simple and easy. I manage to make another angry pig for tutorial pictures =)
It's Easter ^^ Pigs are having a blast coz they can have all the eggs they want! Have an EGG-cellent weekend ahead, everyone =)

Flatten a slice of pandan bread with a roller. (This will allow the bread to be moulded easily without tearing).
Slice the crusts off, then make slits in the 4 corners.
(U can choose to keep the crusts, I sliced it off as I had initially wanted to use it as the "defence" walls for the eggs).
Place the filling of your choice in the middle.

Place the bread on a cling wrap.

Twist the cling wrap and tightly bundle the bread into a ball.

Stamp out 2 small circles (eyes) + 1 bigger (nose) out of cheese.

Stick on the eyes & "nostrils" (my nori are punched using punchers)

Add on the "brows" & a mouth.

Take a 1/4 of a slice of bread, then half it. These are for the ears.

Flatten the bread, mould/roll it into a small ball.

Stick the ears in using uncooked pasta (much safer then using toothpicks lest kids accidentally swallow it).
Tadah.. the angry pig ^^

Nöm #102- Easter Bunny Chicks (04Apr-12)

An Easter themed bento =^^=Bought ume soumen for the first time. I kinda of like the taste, not sure about the kids though. I packed frozen soba dip for them to bring along.
